Lily's Reflections
Lily leaves her first therapy appointment. She feels better than before she walked in. She wonders whether there are connections between everything she spoke about and she is curious about where this process will take her. She usually grabs a bite to eat while she works through lunch at her office. She rushes to her car thinking she will have to eat without being noticed on the conference call that starts soon. She is deep in thought as she starts the engine and pulls out of the parking lot, sensing a familiar presence in the passenger seat.

Hey, Lily. Please don’t drive like a maniac getting back to work. They can’t start the conference call without you, so take your time.
IVy! You’re back! How come you only show up when I’m in the car?
I’m with you all the time, Lily. And I’m always talking to you. You just always have so much going on that everything else drowns me out. But if you listen for me, you will hear me.
Wow, IVy, this is exactly what that therapist was telling me. She wants me to listen to my inner voice and I’m supposed to tell her what I’m hearing.
Well, I hope you tell her that I’m fabulous and really cool and a wonderful best friend.
So, I have a question for you, IVy. Does everything I think about in my head come from you?

I wish that was the case, sweetie. Things would be a lot better around here if I was in charge. No, there are other voices besides mine. Remember I told you about the enemy in your head? She often tries to pretend she’s me. She is loud, pushy, and really annoying. I know that, but you often can’t tell the difference between her and me. That’s why you’re in therapy, Lily. This lady will help you figure all this out. It’s all good.
