Therapist Update
Lily is working hard in her therapy sessions. We have explored all of the information that Lily has revealed in our early work, and she is making connections between the symptoms she is feeling and the underlying stressors that are fueling those symptoms. Lily has gained insight into her role in maintaining the status quo in situations she does not like. She feels anger towards her husband, her kids, and her mother, for example, yet she remains passive. She says nothing, avoids confrontation, and then she feels stuck with the resultant negative feelings, which are often overwhelming for her. We discuss that her symptoms can be interpreted as a signal that she can no longer suppress her feelings. To better understand the thinking that accompanies her sadness and anger, we continue to look at her self talk.
