Therapeutic Progress Notes
Lily continues to deepen her awareness of her inner thoughts. She understands that these take the form of automatic thoughts and are anchored as core beliefs. Lily now recognizes the relationship between her thinking, her behaviors, and her emotions.
Lily was quite rattled and disturbed by a recent eating binge in the middle of the night. She struggled to understand the difference between a self-sabotaging act and a lack of willpower. With therapeutic assistance, she can now distinguish between the two. She understands that self sabotage is a behavioral act that can be stopped or altered, while an absence of willpower
represents to her a fixed and unalterable personality flaw and personal failing. Lily continues to gain insight into the many strengths she has repeatedly demonstrated over the course of her life. These affirmations counter the negative beliefs that were inherent in her punitive self-labeling.
Lily is increasingly sensitive to the highly negative and pejorative language she uses towards herself. She is learning to challenge her thinking, and, in doing so, she is also learning to modify the way she looks at herself and others.
