The Story Doesn't End...

Lily’s Story is deliberately without an ending.  Like so many people, Lily has had a lifelong struggle with her weight.  It is conceivable that Lily, and others like her, will continue to struggle with food, weight, dieting, and willpower, in one way or another, for the rest of her life.

As Lily discovered, there is an inner voice in all of us.  Sometimes it speaks very softly while at other times quite loudly, all day and perhaps even at night.  Oftentimes that inner voice is far harsher with ourselves than it is to others.  We can be our own worst enemy.  But we can also be our own best friend as well.  The challenge is to figure out who is hidden in that inner voice at any given moment – our friend (IVy) or our foe (EVy).

  • Our FOE thinks in all or nothing terms.

  • Our FRIEND searches for the gray.

  • Our FOE engages in fortune telling and negative “what if’s”.

  • Our FRIEND is balanced and stays in the present moment.

  • Our FOE is harsh, critical and self downing.

  • Our FRIEND is compassionate, forgiving and encouraging.

Reflect on any connections you felt in reading Lily’s Story.

where and how did the lily story intersect with your own dieting experience?

what roles do ivy and evy play when you are dieting or have dieted in the past?
